How much radiation is emitted during a CT-examination?
Question:
How much radiation is emitted during a CT-examination?
Answer:
The doctors for whom Prescan mediates work with a ‘low-dose-protocol’. This means that the amount of radiation is minimal, taking into account the amount of radiation that a person absorbs in a natural manner per annum ( less than 2 Millisievert). During examinations like a Total Body Scan, the scan emits a radiation load of 1,4 Millisievert. A comparison: A pilot is exposed to an average of 3 to 5 Millisievert per annum because of the great altitude at which he flies.
For your safety the prescriptions concerning the limitation of radiation are strictly applied. During a Total Body Scan use is made of MRI-scans, that as a standard, do not emit radiation. The CT-scan is only used on indication, based on provisional conclusions drawn from scientific studies.
